Explore the seemingly endless aisles of traditional stands that would have Scrooge himself walking away filled with the Christmas spirit!

Enjoy a leisurely day discovering the cultural and historical significance of Weimar. This small town, once a focal point of German culture during the 18th century, was home to giants of the Enlightenment such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Schriller whose ideas spread around the globe. However, a lesser known export of Weimar is the Christmas tree. Legend has it, the first ever public Christmas tree was erected by a local shop owner in 1815.

Learn more about Weimar’s storied past as our day begins with a locally guided tour. Visit sites within the city that boasts three UNESCO World Heritage Sites and over 16 UNESCO objects.

Guests will have the afternoon to themselves. Book a horse and carriage ride around the town. Visit the delightful shops and boutiques scattered throughout pedestrian zone. A visit to the Goethe National Museum or Bauhaus Architecture museum is sure to delight the arts & culture enthusiast. History buffs can visit the city museum where they will learn more about the founding of the Weimar Republic and the pivotal role it played early 20th century German national history.  For guests seeking another type of history, the sobering Buchholz Concentration Camp Memorial Site is a short 20 minute drive from the city center, with public busses departing hourly.

From the Sound of Music city we make our way east, where we visit the markets of Austria’s capital city; Vienna. Upon arriving in the Imperial city, once the capital of the Hapsburg Empire, we will visit Schoenbrunn Palace. Here guests will enjoy an informative guided tour of the palace which was home to the beloved emperor Franz Josef and his Bavarian bride Sissi. Following our tour, guests may peruse the royal Christmas Market located directly in front of this world-renowned palace.

Upon the conclusion of our Schoenbrunn Palace visit ,we will head to the heart of Vienna and visit the cities largest market with the imposing Town Hall as its backdrop.

Sights along the way include Mozart Square, The Sound of Music Fountain, Mozart's birth house, St. Paul's Cathedral, General J. Collins grave, and finally the Hohensalzburg Castle.

After learning the lay of the land, enjoy free time to visit the city's sights and shops at your leisure. A must-see is the city's elaborate Christmas Market, located at the base of the Hohensalzburg Fortress, just in front of the Salzburg Cathedral. The Market's 95+ vendors are sure to offer a little something for every taste!

Grüss Gott (“hello” in the local dialect) and welcome to the start of your Bavaria & Beyond vacation! Upon arriving at the Munich International Airport, your Bavaria & Beyond guides will be waiting to greet you. Enjoy a complimentary beverage and mingle with your fellow travelers as our group assembles at the designated airport meeting point. Once the group is completely gathered, we will pack up and depart for beautiful Salzburg via a private coach bus.

Our "express check-in" process will ensure that you quickly and comfortably settle-in to your 4-star accommodations located in the heart of Salzburg. After allowing guests the opportunity to unpack and relax, a Welcome Reception will be hosted. Enjoy an all-inclusive meal with delicious local delicacies as you become acquainted with your fellow travelers. During the reception all the necessary information will be distributed to ensure a smooth start to your Bavaria & Beyond vacation!
